Programs
Social Skills Group
Achieve Beyond offers social skills groups facilitate the generalization of skills
taught in school and/or therapy programs to the natural environment. Using Skinner’s
(1957) Analysis of Verbal Behavior as the foundation of our groups, we help
children and adolescents learn and practice newly acquired skills with other similar-
aged children who have like abilities. Each social skills group includes 4 to 5 children
and 2 to 3 ABA trained therapists. The groups will meet weekly on Saturdays for 10
sessions and run from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm (Group 1) and 1:30-2:30 (Group 2).
Group sessions are held in-office in addition to out in the community. Examples of
community outings include the Reston Petting Zoo, bowling, rock wall climbing,
kayaking, and going to restaurants. As such, group members have ample opportunity
to acquire and practice social skills in a variety of environments so as to ensure
generalization.
